Happy Thanksgiving Days

I tried to stay away from a practice of setting aside a special day to give thanks to God for all His many blessings. I am not against the celebration of Thanksgiving Day and the opportunity seized by business people to make profit on that day. But as it relates to God and thanking Him for all that I am, I just think one day a year is just too little for that purpose. The Bible speaks of giving thanks in many places which makes thanksgiving a requirement. At one point it says “Oh give thanks unto the Lord for He is good.” In another place, it says “In everything give thanks for this is the will of God….” So I try to give thanks all the time as I continue to enjoy God’s many blessings. Setting one day aside as an “all-thank-you-God-day” is not a bad idea especially when it is not the only time thanks is giving to our Creator. Thanksgiving Day doesn’t forbid anyone from giving thanks through out the year. consequently, thanking God should be an all day, all year round affair. It is not a way of making up for some ten months of “ingratitude” to God either. And as for eating a special meal on this day, I think thanking God should have nothing to do with what we eat. It is only a tradition that has survived through the years. Although there is nothing wrong with perpetuating such tradition, our God accept thank you even if it is offered on empty stomachs or ones filled with dipa, torborghee, or palm cabbage.

Enjoy a turkey if you can but there is nothing wrong with staying away from the crowd. Give thanks to God if no one else is thanking Him or if the day is not been officially declared. And as for getting up tonight for Black Friday sales, I am not going to venture in that cold weather and stand in queues for hours.

In view of the aforementioned, I wish you all Happy Thanksgiving and Eat what ever you like Days!
